COLTS FIND SPONSOR!

The newly formed Iwade Colts have acquired a sponsor for the forthcoming season in the shape of OMEGA TRAVEL!

The have already been very helpful in supplying the money to complete the roofing of the stadium and so that all the fans are now under cover should the weather turn nasty. Also, they are providing free coach travel for fans to and from Old Gun Road to Iwade Stadium on race nights.

Due to Omega Travel's connection with the club we are able to offer cheaper tickets on the coaches for away matches.

So if your thinking of getting away from it all this winter why not visit their office in the stadium foyer for a bargain offer!

ALMOST THERE!

Iwade's very own Aleksander Komljenovic came within two points of winning the Slovenian Championship in Krsko at the weekend. It was a tremendous performance from a rider who ended last season on a 5.50 average.

the meeting was won by Janez Jesenicik with a tremendous 15 point maximum. However this result for Alex bodes well for the new Sovereign Season ahead and all at the Colts send our congratulations.

HELLO-GOODBYE

The 30 year old Finnish star, Henri Myllyneimi, who is very well known by all those at Terry Meech Speedway Ltd having ridden for both Broadstairs & Birchington was allocated to Iwade but didn't have time to unpack his kevlars as Peterborough of the 1st Division came in with an offer for his services that the Colts Management felt they couldn't turn down.

In other news, Tommy Roberts also left the club this week on a free transfer to Exeter and we wish both of them and their new clubs all the best for the future!

NOT FAR FOR CARL!
The Iwade management pulled off a major coup when they secured the loan deal of the season, so far, with signings of Peter carl and Ryan Palin from our nearest neighbours, Eastbourne Seagulls. The club's website and phone system crashed under the pressure of phone calls, texts and emails once the news broke and Season Ticket sales doubled.

Peter carl is the current Number 2 in the World after finishing runner-up in last season's Grand Prix Series and was World Champion on a couple of earlier occasions. With Denmark dropping out of the International Series Peter will be able to concentrate full time on his racing for the Colts.

As for Ryan Palin, he is a two times winner of the World Under 21 Championships as well as being a former winner of the World Under 19 Championships. Now at the age of 22 some experts still feel that the best is yet to come and a drop down to division 3 could prove to be  the spur he may need.

Lastly, we would like to thank the Seagulls' management for both the deal itself and the swiftness of the negotiations.

COLTS PLEASED WITH ALLOCATIONS

All in all the club feel that the allocation system has been kind to them. More than half the riders were under the same management at Birchington last season.

Although Henri has departed, dale Woodward's great experience will be a great help with younger riders and as such he will coach the Colt's Academy Team along with Aussie favourite, Ollie Roodenburg,  who will himself will be a strong in the 2nd String ranks.

Iwade also acquired the rider with possibly the longest name in the S-League, Alexander Komljenovic, who the Birchington fans nicknamed "Sander the Panda" because of his Black and White kevlars and hope the name will stick! The Colts firmly believe that he is one of the most exciting prospects in the Sovereign League and as such much is expected from him this season.

Matt Ashworth was a late season signing in SL20 for the Bears from Verwood and he will be a part of Academy Team were will feel his career will benefit from regular racing and should help him progress.

Jonathan Fox had been at Fleetwood for 14 years before their untimely closure at the end of last season and he has proved to be a prolific rider in that time having been British Champion in SL14 and World Under 21 Champion in SL9 and should prove to should prove to be a valuable asset  for the newly formed Colts. Sam game has been a team-mate of Fox's for the past 8 seasons at the Sharks and will be looking to further his career at Old Gun Road.

WHAT IS SPEEDWAY ?

Speedway racing takes place on a flat oval track, usually of a dirt or loosely packed shale. The riders use this surface to slide their machines sideways into the bends using the rear wheel to scrub-off speed while still providing the drive to power the bike forward and around the bend.

Originating in New South Wales, Australia in the 1920's there are both now domestic and international competitions in a number of countries including the Speedway Grand Prix, the winner of which becomes World Champion for the current year

Regulations state that motorcycles used must have no brakes, run on Methanol, use only one gear and weigh a minimum 77KG. Racing consists of 4 riders competing over 4 laps on a track 260 to 450 metres long. This can be Individual or Team Events with 2 riders from each side involved in each heat.

The Sovereign League, which the Colts have joined, consists of 30 Teams in 3 Leagues of 10 with each Club racing each other twice Home and Away over the course of the Season. There are also 2 Cup competitions, the K.O.Cup which is open to all 30 clubs and the Divisional Cups which is between Clubs in each Division. Also there are a Best Pairs, 4 Team Tournaments and Individual meetings throughout the Season.
