T.M. Hi Sam welcome to Iwade and what are your aims for this season?

S.G. Thanks very much, having recovered from the shock of Fleetwood actually closing after it looked as though it had been saved half-way through last season I was over the moon to be given the chance to further my career with the Colts. For one thing it will give me the chance to perform in the Academy League again , which I feel is essential at my age in order to improve and my aim is to try and win a reserve spot this season.

T.M. What does the arrival of the Eastbourne lads, on loan, mean to you and the other Colts?

S.G. We feel this is a tremendous opportunity to be around a rider with the class of Peter Carl and he will be an inspiration to spur us on. Also, personally I can learn a lot from Ryan Palin who has already experienced Championship success  and he's a year younger than me! Both Peter and Ryan are very professional in their attitude which is obviously something they have learned at the Seagulls.

T.M. Your Elder Brother, Paul, rode in the S-League for a while and then retired at a relatively young age, what's he doing for a living now?

S.G. Yeah, Paul's doing fine thanks he rode for a few clubs but never really made it and an opportunity came up for him to work with our Dad in his garage as a mechanic so he took it.
He still goes to Speedway matches on a regular basis and keeps in touch with some of his old Team Mates.

T.M. If you weren't riding Speedway what would you like to do instead.?

S.G.  When I was younger and still at school I wanted to be a mountaineer and even went on a few basic climbing courses, but I got into Cycle speedway and then the smell of the shale called me. If this doesn't work out then I would like to go into karting in a big way!

T>M. Well, thanks for  your time Sam and good like for the new season. If I can just leave you with one last question, how do you see the season panning out for the newly formed.

S.G. Well, I have to watch what I say as I'm sitting nest to the promoter, but we must have a great shout in the 3rd Division although the Team Limit Total may be a worry throughout the season, Also, it would be nice to have a good Cup run in either the KO or Divisional Cups. The Academy team would have really struggled as a first season outfit, but be able to use Ryan together with the imminent arrival of a few more young riders means we could an okay time of it!

FOOTNOTE; SAM'S COMMENTS ON A GOOD K.O.CUP WERE MADE BEFORE THE COLTS HAD DRAWN EASTBOURNE IN ROUND 1 OF THAT COMPETITION!
