CHALLENGE  MATCH 1

IWADE 33 (Johnny Fox 12, Peter Carl 8)
PETERBOROUGH 56(S.Johnson 12+1, H.Myllyneimi 12)

PIRATES PLUNDER!
A crowd of nearly 2,000 turned out for the official opening of the Old Gun Road Stadium and the staging of Iwade's first match in the S-League.

Although the fans saw some great racing it was not the start that the Home supporters expected. It was always going to be a tough first assignment against a strong looking First Division outfit , but the night turned into a bit of a disaster! The writing was on the wall as early as Heat 4 with the Pirates already establishing a 10 point lead and with the Colts policy of no Tactical Substitutes in Challenge Matches the deficit was never going to close. But nobody could forsee that by the end f the meeting  Iwade would lose by a crushing 23 points.

The Colts must have been rueing the sale of Henri Myllyneimi to the visitors as he raced to a 12 point haul and  with Steve Johnson, the star man of the meeting, chipping in with 12 paid 13 from his five rides Iwade were outclassed. Also there was a fine performance from the Pirates new singing, Adam Moore.

1st ever Heat at Old Gun Road

As for Iwade, Loanee Peter carl started brightly but lack of match practice showed in his last two rides as he trailed in last on both occasions. By far the best performance from a Home rider came from Jonathan Fox who scored a creditable 12 points.

Surely the only way is up for the Colts after this dour showing!

CHALLENGE MATCH 2

BEVERLEY 47(A.Judge 12, J.Read 9)
IWADE 43(P.Carl 12, Alex Kopmljenovic 8)

COLTS NOT FIRING-QUITE YET!
The Colts were still recovering from the crushing defeat by Peterborough as their coach pulled into the East Yorks Raceway, to face the Beverley Hammers.

As it was the two teams produced a really exciting meeting in the end after it looked as though the visitors could be on the end of another pasting as they were 10 points down with only 3 heats left, but three 2-4s  on the bounce saw the Colts come away with a creditable defeat by 4 points.

Ashley Judge led from the front with a great 12 points with the two reserves, Ryan Thomsom 5 and Sean Clay 5+3 backing him up really well.

Iwade's Peter Carl was unbeaten by an opponent all night but was denied a Maximum by engine failure in Heat 5. Zanda the Panda had an impressive night with 8 points, with the other three main team riders chipping in well.

Peter Carl wins Heat 1

Once again the reserves were a disappointment and so Iwade will alter their policy of riding two 3 pointers in the Pre-Season Challenge Matches and they will field their first choice squad for both the Home match with Torbay and their visit to Verwood.

CHALLENGE MATCH 3

IWADE 48(Johnny Fox11+1, Alex Komljenovic 9+1)
TORBAY 42(T.Adamcik 17, L.Pinte 12+1)

TIGERS TAMED!
The colts fans left the Old Gun Road Stadium in good heart after watching their team's first ever victory after they defeated Torbay Tigers by 6 points. However, Tiger fans can hold their heads high after witnessing two great performances from their own Tibor Adamcik (17) and Lubos Pinte(12+1). Both were in superb form but it was not enough against a solid team performance from the Iwade lads.

Peter Carl was the rider who prevented Adamcik from completing a 6ride maximum when he got the better of him in Heat 1. The Colts were always in front and led by 10 points after 7 heats of the contest, a deficit that they managed to close to 6 after 11 heats, but two 3-3s followed by an exchange of 5-1s in the last 4 heats saw the home safely to a 6 point win.

Johnny Fox looked to be going well again for Iwade but Peter carl is still struggling to finish all five rides in a meeting. Zanda the Panda looked good again and Ryan Palin may have completed a paid maximum, at reserve, had he not been excluded in Heat 11.

CHALLENGE MATCH 4

VERWOOD 46(K.Dornan 12, D.Inram 1)
IWADE 43(Peter Carl, Johnny Fox 10)

ON THE VER-GE
This was probably the Colts performance of the season as they held the 1st Division new boys to thee points on their Home shale. Peter Carl was up to his old tricks as he prevented another rider completing a maximum when he got the better of Kenny Dornan in Heat 15 and again failed to complete all five of his rides!

This was a great pre-season meeting for the fans to enjoy with never more than 3 points in it until Heat 13, indeed the visitors even led by a point after 8 heats!. However,  a 4-2 from Dornan & Gyorok saw the Vipers extend their advantage to five which was reversed by a Carl, Fox 2-4 in the Final Heat.

Besides Dornan there was a fine performance by David Ingram for the Home side and Tony Venables started well at reserve but then seemed to run out of steam.

For the Colts Johnny Fox and Ryan Palin were once again the stand out riders.

CHALLENGE MATCH 5

IWADE 45(P.Carl 12, J.Fox 11+1)
LEEDS 45(P.Guarino 10, S.Alidori 8+1)

BACK FROM THE BRINK!
One Heat left, 4 points down at Home to Leeds! Who do you call ? yeas the Jag Busters, messers Carl & Fox and you draw a match that had looked lost!

The Colts and the Jaguars served up a great night's speedway for Iwade's last meeting before the season starts in earnest next week. Leeds led from Heat 3 right through till that fabulous Heat 15 team ride from the top two Colts and on one occasion the visitors managed to stretch their lead to 10  points, only for the Home side to slowly chip away the lead.

Leeds star rider on the night was 2nd String, Pierangelo Gaurino who won 3  of his first 4 races, suffering an exclusion in Heat 7 along the way. He was well supported by ex-Broadstairs favourite, Simone Alidori, who has been suffering from his usual slow start to the season! Most of the Leeds fans left the stadium slightly disappointed after their team managed to through away a winning lead.

On the other hand the Iwade fans left more than happy after seeing their team put in such a fighting performance. Unfortunately Peter Carl again failed to complete all five rides, but won the other four comfortably and he was will backed up by Johnny Fox and Ryan Palin . On the down side both Ollie Roodenburg and dale Woodward are still struggling to find their form and will need to step up now that the season proper is about to start.

CHALLENGE MATCH 6

KELSO 47(Y. Zizlev 14, V. Balagic 10)
IWADE 43(P. Carl 13, J.Fox 11)

KESTRELS CLAW THEIR WAY HOME!

Iwade completed their pre-season challenge fixtures with a long trek to Kelso. Once again, on the road the Colts provided stern opposition for a team from a higher division.

Newly promoted to the second division this term the Kestrels have made several changes in their line up during the close season. and no doubt would have been using this fixture to gauge the strength of their new look team.

The meeting started with an exchange of 4-2s in the first three heats, which saw the visitors lead by 2. This was followed by a series of drawn heats until the Home side levelled things up in Heat 7 Then a shrewd move by the Kelso manager swapping Andrew Waters in favour of reserve Vil Balagic to produce a 5-1 for the Kestrels swung the advantage over to the Home team and by the end of Heat 14 they lead by 2 points. At that point the match was still in the balance but Yurgis Zizlev, who was in scintillating form all night, sped home to win the heat and with Chris Harris holding off Johnny Fox for third place the Kestrels clawed their way to a 4 point victory.

As previously stated Zizlev was on fire all night and was well supported by reserve Villi Balagic who worked hard  with 10 points from his 6 rides! As for the visitors it was the Carl and Fox show once again with the former mentioned managing to complete all five of his rides for the first time in pre-season.

3RD DIVISION WEEK 1

COVENTRY 47(I.Hanak 11, M.Darrocott 10+1)
IWADE 42(P.Carl15(max), A.Komljenovic 9)

WILDCATS OUTRUN COLTS!

These two teams put on a great show for Coventry's first ever league outing and it was the Home fans who were the happiest as their heroes by 5 points!

After seven heats the Colts led by a solitary point but a 5-1 from Watson and the magnificent Darracott saw the Wildcats in front by three and although the visitors closed the gap back to a single point after 11 Heats, Coventry gradually pulled away for the victory.

Istvan Hanak top scored for the Home side , but the star of the night was the Wildcat's reserve, Mike Darracott, with a wonderful 10 paid 11 points haul, which included three heat wins.

Peter Carl rode to a superb maximum for the Coltsand he was well supported by "Zanda the Panda"

3RD DIVISION WEEK 2

IWADE 52(P.CARL 15(Max), D.Woodward 10+1)
EARLEY 38(G.Moss 14, M.Bertos 7+3)

COLTS WIN EARLEY!

Iwade started their Home League campaign with a comfortable win over new boys Earley

Two 5-1s in the 2nd & 3rd heats saw the Coltsin frnt by eight and the lead had stretched to ten by the end of Heat 5.Then the Gravediggers bought in Rob Barron as a Tactical Substitute in the heat that followed only to see him trail in last and deficit increase to twelve! A further T/S failed in Heat 7 and the visitors found themselves 28-14 down. As much as they tried the visitors couldn't reduce the final margin down to less  than fourteen points, which sent the Home fans away very happy.

Gavin Moss worked hard all night for his 14 points from 6 rides, but the star of the night was Peter Carl who remains unbeaten in a League ride after another great 15 point maximum!. At the same time Dale Woodward produced his best performance of the season with a 10 paid 11 point haul.

However, the evening was marred by the bad fall for Ryan Palin in Heat 14, which will see him out of action for six weeks.

Colts after their Heat Two 5-1

3rd DIVISION  CUP GROUP A

IWADE 53(P.Carl 15(max), J.Fox 12+1)
DEVON 37 (T.Tsekinis 11, S.Djuranovic 9+1)

COLTS CAST OUT THEIR DEMONS!

The Colts were eight points up after three heats as they entertained the Devon Demons in their Divisional Cup clash and although the visitors chipped away at Iwade's advantage until they were only four points behind by Heat 11 and it remained that way in Heat 12 as the points were shared after the Demon's Brendan Kirkham raced to the heat win.

However, nobody foretell the body blows that  the Colts were about to inflict on the Demons with three 5-1s in the last three heats and a sixteen point victory. Two of those heats were won by the amazing Peter Carl, who piled up another 15 point maximum. John the Fox was again in great form and the Colt to really miss out on the points money was the disappointing, Ollie Roodenburg.

Ned Tsekinis and Sebastian Djuranovic  were the best for he Demons, with Brendan Kirkham getting better as the night went on.

It is always good to start with a win in the Group stages of the Divisional Cup, but as in most seasons it will no doubt be the away performances that will decide on a team's progress to the Semi-Final stages.

3rd DIVISION WEEK 3
IWADE 44 (Peter Carl 14,  Johnny Fox 10+1)
BROCKMOOR 46(Alan Clark 11, Hayden Weir 7)

BULLIED!
This was a humdinger of a match and probably the best ever seen at Old Gun Road so far, with the lead changing several times during the evening.

With ten heats gone the Colts led by four points after picking up two consecutive 5-1s only for the Bulls to reply with two maximum heat wins  of their own to lead by four after twelve  heats. Carl and Komljenovic hit back with a 4-2 in Heat 13, but the visitors held on with two shared races to gab the victory by two points.

In Heat 15 Brockmoor's Alan Clark became the first rider to beat Peter Carl in a  League race this season and this continue his and the Bulls great start to the campaign. Iwade were out-gunned in the reserve positions as they continue to rue the injury to Ryan Palin.

3rd DIVISION WEEK 4

GLENHOLT 40(Matt Mapp 10, Alex Rinnhofer 7+1)
IWADE 50(Peter Carl 15(max), Johnny Fox 12+1)

COLTS BEAT KNIGHTS, ALRIGHT!

In true fighting mode the Colts showed their bounce-back ability with a superb win at Glenholt after their disappointing performance in defeat the previous night.

The visitors were never behind and held a comfortable six point advantage after the first three heats of this League encounter. However in Heat 9 the Home side got themselves back in contention when a 5-1 from Rinnhofer & Faustov got them within two points. Peter Carl raced from the gate in Heat 11 and Ollie Roodenburg went underneath on the last bend to provide Iwade with a 4-2 to extend their lead to four. A maximum haul in the final heat courtesy of Peter carl & Jonathan Fox secured a comfortable ten point victory for the Colts.

Matt Mapp scored well again for the Knights, but his exclusion in Heat 1 may ave cost the Home side dearly. Meanwhile, Peter carl notched up his third League Maximum of the season so far.

Peter Carl races to another maximum!

3rd DIVISION CUP GROUP A
KESWICK 46(Jiri Wittner 14, Stuart Murphy 11+1)
IWADE 44(Peter Carl 10, Johnny Fox 9)

KESWICK EDGE IT!
One of the best ways to beat the Colts is to make sure Peter Carl and Jonathan Fox have relatively quiet nights, which is exactly what the Crusaders top two , Jiri Wittner & Stuart Murphy managed to achieve!

Although the visitors lead early thanks to a 5-1 in Heat 2 from the reserve pairing of Kevin Payne and Garry Bowman. Keswick managed to put their heads in front by two points after six heats. Heat 7 saw Fox and Woodward in great team riding form for a 5-1 which was followed by a 4-2 from Roodenburg & Bowman to put Iwade two points in front which was then nullified in Heat 8. Unfortunately the Colts seemed to run out of steam from that point on and three 4-2s in the last five races was enough to give Keswick victory by 2 points.

as I said earlier Wittner and Murphy shone out for the Home side, whereas the visitors turned in a more solid team performance with their reserves leading the way.

3rd DIVISION WEEK %
DEVON 48(Aljosa Hadzic 12, Ned Tsekinis 10+1)
IWADE 42(Peter Carl 15, Johnny Fox 10)

COLTS CAN'T SHAKE OFF THEIR DEMONS!

Although this would be most people's idea of the correct result, the Colts must be kicking themselves! With Peter carl racing to five straight win and Iwade within two points after 14 heats the visitors must have been quietly confident of taking a point from this fixture. However, that all went out of the window when Peter Carl was caught napping at the start and once Hadzic & Tsekinis got their noses in front they were never going to be passed and the resulting 5-1 was enough to give the Home side a comfortable looking six point victory.

All of the Devon Heat Leaders looked solid as once again it was left to Jonathan Fox to be the main support to Peter Carl for Iwade.

3rd DIVISION WEEK 6
IWADE 47(Peter Carl 12, Alex Komljenovic 11)
DERBY 42(Jake Beacham 15, Franz Wohlfahrt 13)

COLTS TAKE THE BUCKS!
If effort won matches then neither Jake Beacham or Franz Wohlfarht would not have been on the losing side , but despite 28 points from 12 races between them this was the outcome of the night for them.

As it happens the Colts were never behind in the meeting and as such it is no surprise That Beacham & Wohlfarht were the only Bucks heat winners.

Peter Carl blotted his copy-book once again when a Heat 13 fall robbed him of a maximum, once again. However looking on the bright side for Iwade , Alex Komljenovic had probably his best performance in the Colts colours.

No doubt Derby will be disappointed with the result as they now have to re-build their squad due to the new GSA's and the revised points limit.

3rd DIVISION CUP GROUP A
IWADE 51(Peter Carl 15(max), Dale Woodward 13+2(paid max))
CANVEY 39(Cvetko Greiwe 9+2, Bill Foster 7+1)
